Dry Skin

Dry skin, or xerosis, occurs due to insufficient moisture retention in the outermost skin layer, leading to roughness, flaking, and cracks. Common in older adults due to reduced oil production, it can also be exacerbated by environmental factors such as low humidity, cold weather, and excessive bathing. Certain medical conditions, including eczema and psoriasis, may contribute to persistent dryness.
Symptoms:
- Dehydration, rough texture, cracking, itching
- Peeling, irritation, or painful skin
