Dr. Jay Patel is a physician-scientist and dermatologist with a deep foundation in translational research and a commitment to compassionate, evidence-driven care. Trained through the prestigious Medical Scientist Training Program at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Patel earned both his MD and PhD, with doctoral research elucidating how sensory perception affects feeding behaviors. He matriculated to UTSW Dermatology Residency, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. Patel brings a thoughtful, systems-based approach to patient care, with research interests spanning complex medical dermatology to skin cancer in underserved populations. His scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and multiple national presentations.

Dr. Patel also is passionate about mentoring future colleagues and has worked with trainees at every level—from high school outreach to doctoral candidates and residents. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, volunteering at their lacrosse games and dance meets, going camping, and is always enthused to join a pick-up volleyball or pickleball game.
